Our History
Youth at Risk was founded in 1992 by Ben Rose, a leading human rights and criminal defence lawyer and Tony Morgan, former Chief Executive of The Industrial Society.
Disillusioned with seeing the same young offenders repeatedly passing through the criminal justice system, emerging unchanged and clearly destined for a future life destructive to themselves and others, they decided to take some positive action.
They created Youth at Risk to design and deliver innovative social intervention programmes aimed at radically changing the way young people view and live their lives.
The method used is distinction based learning.
This process was originally invented by George Spencer-Brown who published the “Laws of Form” in 1956. YAR has used the central elements of this work together with the most effective practices from a wide variety of other disciplines to produce a transformational programme that makes a profound difference with those with whom we work.
