D. Marriott (Head Teacher):

“I am delighted that the Coaching for Success programme was introduced into Abbot Beyne during 2003/2004. The programme has been a great success in terms of raising aspirations and achievement for a significant group of students in school. It has had a huge impact on the staff who went through the training, and was even described by one Governor who undertook the training as life changing!

We look forward to the programme continuing at Abbot Beyne – it has been one of the best things we have ever done.”

Julie Rudge (Assistant Head Teacher and CfS school co-ordinator):

“As a manager of the Coaching for Success programme I have spent the last year learning alternative techniques to use when working with young people. The programme has allowed myself and other staff involved the opportunity to work closely with some of our students, encouraging them to develop the confidence to solve many of their own problems. The level of training and organisation has been excellent throughout. I am convinced that because of the high quality training provided many of the coaches (recruited by CfS) will continue to work with Abbot Beyne over coming years.”

“Coaching for Success has been an inspirational programme for staff, students and for performance coaches. All of those taking part have learnt something new about themselves. For some or our students the experience has been life-changing as they have looked at how they were being and have decided they want to make changes. I would whole-heartedly recommend the programme to other schools”.

Lesley Timson (Assistant Head Teacher, CfS co-ordinator)

“As a result of their participation in Coaching for Success we have noted an improvement in the levels of attendance of almost all students and what has been particularly rewarding was to see some of our more reticent students gaining in self-confidence and belief and thereby improving their performance in many subject areas. We now have a team of trained staff who are committed to working in a coach-style approach with students and we are hoping to spread good practice in this area".
