Communities
'Coaching for Communities' programmes are specifically tailored to support some of the 'hardest to reach' young people, alienated from society at large
Local authorities right across the UK are working hard to build safer and stronger communities - but our experience tells us that policies and officialdom alone can’t transform communities.
It needs the communities themselves to share the vision, create the aspiration and play an active role in bringing about change and improvement. A ‘new’ community cannot be ‘enforced’ or ‘imposed’ but has to be generated by the residents themselves.
Young people are a major influence on the way our communities are now and how they will be in the future. Any successful community regeneration must involve them and provide opportunities for them to see how they can lead their communities. Breaking down the perceived barriers to them integrating fully and being successful is essential in creating a thriving and cohesive community.
Our innovative approach works through developing ‘partnerships for change’ in which we bring together youth professionals from both statutory and voluntary bodies, leaders of community groups and ‘local’ volunteers to create an environment that provides continuous learning and forms a ‘supportive community’ to which these alienated young people can turn.
